DAVID H. VANCE, Ph.D., is a Registered Patent Attorney who focuses his practice on patent procurement, technical counseling, freedom-to-operate opinions, patentability analyses, conducting competitive analyses, and advising on drug candidate protection.

Prior to joining Feldman Gale, Dr. Vance founded Vance Intellectual Property where he focused mainly on chemical patent procurement.  Additionally, Dr. Vance worked as a Senior Patent Agent with the DuPont Pharmaceuticals Company in Delaware as well as a Patent Agent/Chemical Technical Advisor with Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt in Virginia.  He is also experienced in drafting applications related to semiconductor processing, organic light emitting diodes, and production of biodiesel and ethanol.

Dr. Vance received his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2001, his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Ohio State University in 1993, and his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Delaware in 1988.  He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Virginia State Bar, the American Chemical Society and the American Bar Association.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

  • Drafting pharmaceutical patent applications for chemical process, cardiovascular, virology, imaging, and inflammation research groups
  • Maintaining an extensive docket of U.S. and foreign patent applications
  • Providing technical counseling for in-licensing of technology, freedom-to-operate opinions, competitive analyses, and drug candidate protection
  • Drafting semiconductor patent applications for semiconductor processing and novel semiconductor substrates
  • Due diligence reviews for state-of-the-art summaries, in-licensing technology, and patentability analyses
  • Prosecution of patent applications in a variety of fields including pharmaceuticals, polymers, inorganic films and biotechnology as well as patentability searches and opinions
